Aaron Family Orchards on Highway 52 East is hosting a free bluegrass and gospel music festival today, Saturday, September 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., giving Gilmer County families a low-cost way to spend a fall Saturday among the apple trees.

The "Pickin' and Pickin' Bluegrass/Gospel Music Festival" is organized by the orchard itself and listed on the Gilmer County Chamber of Commerce community events calendar. There's no admission charge, and the event is built around live performances set against the orchard's harvest backdrop at 8350 Highway 52 East in Ellijay.

The Byers Creek Bluegrass Band takes the stage at 1 p.m. Other bluegrass and Southern gospel acts round out the day, running from the 10 a.m. start through 4 p.m.

The festival lands during the orchard's fall harvest season, when Aaron Family Orchards is already drawing visitors for apples, fried pies, canned goods and other produce. It gives locals a reason to combine a music outing with the kind of orchard visit that's become a fixture of an Ellijay fall.

Families planning to attend should expect an outdoor, all-ages setting typical of an orchard property: bring a lawn chair or blanket, and dress for whatever the weather does. The orchard can be reached at (706) 273-3180 for questions about the day's schedule.
