Ribbon Cut on New Gilmer Performing Arts Center for Students, Community

Gilmer County has a new stage. The Gilmer Chamber joined Gilmer County Schools, community leaders, students and educators on Tuesday, September 15, to cut the ribbon on the new Gilmer Performing Arts Center, a dedicated venue built for music, theatre and student performances that organizers say will also double as a gathering space for community events.

The chamber announced the opening publicly on September 18, calling it "an exciting milestone for Gilmer County and the beginning of a new chapter for performing arts in our community." The event brought together the students, educators, contractors and supporters who worked to get the facility built, giving the community its first look inside the finished space.

For families in Ellijay and East Ellijay, the center means students no longer have to make do with a gym or cafeteria stage for band concerts, choir performances or the school play. It gives Gilmer County Schools a permanent, purpose-built home for the arts, one designed specifically for rehearsing, performing and hosting an audience.

More than a school building

The chamber's announcement was clear that the center is not meant to stay locked to school hours. Organizers describe it as a new space for Gilmer County to gather and watch the talent being developed at home, opening the door for it to host performances, programs and special events well beyond the school calendar.
